How Sepha helped reduce deblistering sound levels to 77 dB(A)

Synopsis

Challenge

Challenge

A Belgian manufacturer of OSD blister packs wanted to reduce sound levels on its packaging floor, setting an internal target below 80 dB(A) to improve operator wellbeing.

The system achieved a validated level of 77 dB(A), delivering a quieter working environment without compromising deblistering performance.

Deblistering Challenges in OSD Blister Pack Production

A Belgian biopharmaceutical manufacturer producing high volumes of OSD blister packs wanted to improve operator comfort on its packaging floor. The site carries out deblistering as part of its routine packaging operations, but the existing deblistering equipment operated at higher noise levels, affecting the overall working environment.

Although hearing protection is only mandatory above 85 dB(A), the manufacturer had set a stricter internal health and safety SOP target of below 80 dB(A) to improve operator wellbeing and create a calmer, more comfortable factory environment.

Low-Noise Deblistering Solution Using Sepha PressOut Universal

Following the successful installation of Sepha’s VisionScan 3D on its blister lines for package integrity testing of blister packs, the manufacturer turned to Sepha to explore options for quieter deblistering.

Sepha worked closely with the customer to understand its internal health and safety requirements and operational goals. While the standard PressOut Universal was initially suggested, already meeting safety requirements at 80.5 dB(A), the customer had set a lower internal target, leading to a customised version incorporating additional noise-reduction features.

Measured Outcomes and Operator Wellbeing

The customised PressOut Universal achieved an operating level of 77 dB(A), exceeding the customer’s internal target without compromising speed or flexibility. Validation was carried out through product trials and site acceptance testing, with repeatable measurements taken at the operator position during normal operating cycles. As a result, operators now benefit from a noticeably quieter working environment, while the business continues to run efficient, high-throughput deblistering operations across a wide range of OSD blister packs.

“The difference was immediately noticeable on the shop floor,” said a site engineer. “We achieved a quieter environment without sacrificing performance.”

Following the success of the installation, the manufacturer plans to install additional systems across its blister lines as part of a long-term focus on operator wellbeing and continuous improvement.

The difference was immediately noticeable on the shop floor,” said a site engineer. “We achieved a quieter environment without sacrificing performance.
